Support for Tropical Initiatives in Poverty Alleviation (STIPA) is a national non-governmental, non-profit making organization with its head office based in Kisumu City, Nyanza Province in Kenya and a Liaison Office based in the capital city of Nairobi.

The roots of STIPA can be traced way back to 1996 when a group of local professionals came together and envisaged the need to be registered as an organization through which they could encourage and support local initiatives and build the capacities of community members in order to enable them manage their development projects successfully.

STIPA was registered under section 10 of the NGO Co-ordination Act of Kenya in September 1997 and has been in operation since then.  The registration number is OP.218/051/975/809
