Capacity Building Initiatives in Somalia

STIPA in collaboration with UNICEF Somalia aims at strengthening the capacities of communities in Somaliland, Capacity Building Initiatives In SomaliaPuntland and South Central to have basic understanding of their rights and responsibilities viz a viz the District Councils so as to increase their active participation in decision making in the delivery of social services and ownership of projects at community level.  The programme will strengthen and widen the principles of democracy, holistic development and enhancing participation, transparency and accountability.

The objectives of the project are:

  • Enhance capacity of Training of Trainers (ToTs) on community consultation process and participatory dialogue in undertaking public meetings.
  • Strengthen capacities of Community Own Resource Persons (CORPs) in project cycle management and civic education
  • Enhance capacity of district councils to train district based facilitators, contractors and communities in participatory monitoring process
  • Strengthen the capacity of Child Protection Advocates in participatory mobilization skills, advocacy and child rights as a way to strengthen the establishment of linkages between Community Planning Committees (CPCs) and existing village/district structures.

The strategies of the project are:

  • Trainings to target groups using participatory approaches
  • Participatory dialogue in community forums
  • Supportive supervision in application of knowledge and skills
  • Exposure visits
  • Monitoring and documenting of best practices and most significant change stories
  • Consultative meetings with Government Ministries and other stakeholders
