Community Peace Project

The project was initiated in 2009 and is geared towards enhancing peace and mitigating conflict situations.  The project is being implemented in Kisumu City as it has suffered heavily during and after the post election violence.  The project seeks to expand to cover other areas of Nyanza Province and beyond its borders.

Being a new project the first strategy is to understand the issues that led to the violence and how the project would be able to address the issues so as to minimize or avoid future occurrence.

The activities below are intended to take on the role of “trainers” and “teachers” since peace is a concept that can be trained and taught:-

  • Mobilization of parents through children between 6-12 years and sensitizing them on peace using tools such as short plays.
  • Sensitization of secondary school students through script writing on any peace, conflict and/or reconciliation subject which will then be filmed.
  • Working with street boys on various theatre scenes on daily peaceful or violent actions with a view to change their concept to a desired effect of boys learning skills and getting ideas for future income generating activities.
  • The Kisumu Peace Festival where the whole of Kisumu City can participate and enjoy in cultural and sportive events with a view to change the local population's and Kenyans perception of Kisumu and its citizens."
  • Training of teachers and multipliers.
