Men Empowerment Project

The project was initiated in 2005 and aims at creating a participatory environment with equal focus on men and women, boys and girls by encouraging its advancement at every level of society.

The focus of the project is on gender sensitive socialization process for boys and girls, men and women. It is a holistic approach to gender awareness, family role and peer education systems in reducing gender stereotypes with the aim of achieving gender equality and achievement of rights by everyone as enshrined in the constitution.  The project targets boys and girls in schools, youth in institutions of higher learning and adults in the production sectors of the economy.

The overall goal is increased equality for both men and women concerning their active participation in development activities for the benefit of everyone and the attainment of human rights.  It aims at bringing men on board as partners in development with women so as to increase in development and access to human rights.

The strategies in place are:-

  • Creating awareness through events such as soccer games, watch groups, focus group discussions, essay competitions.
  • Use of both electronic and printed media to promote the clear understanding of the concept by various groups.
  • Capacity building through workshops for perceptions and attitude change among the different groups.
  • Linkages between different groups to foster knowledge and skills transfer and technology between different groups.
  • Mentoring through establishment of “transition from boys to gender responsive men” mentoring scheme.
  • Networking and collaboration through formation of “stakeholder’s collaborative network “micro enterprise development.
  • Promotion of economic empowerment through sustainable agriculture, livestock production and crop husbandry.
