Single Parents Project

The project was initiated in the year 2000 where STIPA works with poor single parents who are widows, divorcees, separated from their spouses or who never got married.  The main activities are centered on counseling, addressing pertinent issues through group therapies/meetings in respect to single parented families, issuing of revolving fund to support existing income generating activities and assisting them to initiate, manage and evaluate health financing mechanisms to improve their health status.

The strategies used are:-

  • Social mobilization and awareness creation.
  • Counselling
  • Group therapies
  • Economic Empowerment
  • Capacity building and skills development.
  • Lobbying and advocacy.
  • Networking and partnership.

The project interventions have continued without external funding due to involvement of the beneficiaries from the initial stages using participatory methodologies as well as instilling of sustainability strategies.
