HIV/AIDS Project

The project focused on increasing accessibility to knowledge and services that mitigated the spread of HIV infection among youths (in and out of schools).  It promoted social and economic empowerment of persons affected and infected with HIV/AIDS (youth, care and support providers).

The activities included school and community outreaches, initiation of AIDS clubs, IEC development and distribution, Candlelight Memorial, World AIDS Day celebration, peer education, youth forums, theatre for development, HIV/AIDS sensitization, trainings (Behaviour Change and Communication, Succession Plan, Journey of Life), periodic follow ups, meetings (quarterly review, networking), documentation, development of proposals .

The challenges experienced include mobility of youths who had been empowered, limited funds to meet the demand for income generating activities, different approaches used by other organizations that encouraged dependency syndrome, scarcity of HIV/AIDS resource materials and inflation that had affected the project budget.

The fourth and last phase of this project ended on 31st December 2010.
