The project aimed at addressing the alarming and devastating effects of HIV/AIDS/TB in East Africa. The project contributed to the realization of the human rights, sustainable development as well as the treatment literacy of HIV/AIDS/TB infected and affected members of the target communities through social and economic empowerment, with the objective of promoting social integration of people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS/TB.
The activities carried out included awareness campaigns and improvement of the psychological and social support, strengthening the capacity of youths to be peer educators, production of relevant user friendly IEC materials, building capacity of income generating activities for women and youth, provision of assistance to orphans and vulnerable children, trainings (Mixed Farming and Agro-forestry, PMTCT), providing treatment education on ART and TB treatment, support from the existing VCTs, construction of incinerator.
The outcomes included formation of support groups where people had a forum of sharing, development of t-shirts and posters as IEC materials, attitude change in most target groups, knowledge and skills improved and IGAs identified, OVCs supported with school uniforms, school fees and psychosocial support, linkages strengthened with relevant ministries, referral system enhanced, facilities supported with consumables, incinerator constructed.
The project phase ended on 31st July 2010.
